The importance of a pre-cleaning inspection.
There are a number of factors that should be taken in to consideration when determining the most effective method of cleaning for the job in hand. Identifying the Fibre type and construction being two of the most important. For example, a natural fibre carpet - such as wool, would need to be approached differently to that of a synthetic carpet. Wool, though hard-wearing and great at repelling everyday soil - due to its natural layer of protection, could quite easily suffer irreversible damage from the incorrect use of cleaning agents and/or cleaning method. A pre-cleaning inpection allows us to select the safest and most effective cleaning method everytime. During the survey we will also look at factors such as soiling levels, carpet age and cleaning history. This information will also assist us in determining how best to treat your carpets, ensuring you receive the best results possible.
From stain removal, to fibre or fabric protection treatments, to maintenance cleaning - ProClean have a cleaning solution that's right for you.

Carpet Cleaning Methods
Many carpet manufacturers recommend professional 'Hot Water Extraction' cleaning as the most effective carpet cleaning method at providing a safe deep clean.
Although there is an industrial steam cleaning process , in the context of carpet cleaning, "steam cleaning" is, in fact, Hot Water Extraction cleaning, professionally known as HWE.
The high temperatures from actual steam could damage synthetic carpet fibres and change the carpets characteristics, as these are set with heat during the manufacturing process. Natural fibre carpets, such as wool, could shrink, whilst Velvet-piled and Berber carpets could become fuzzy - this is known as pile-burst. Hot Water Extraction uses manual thermostatic-controlled heat to ensure that your carpets are never exposed to more heat than necessary.
The process of hot water extraction begins with pre-conditioning. Alkaline or acidic cleaning agents are sprayed into the carpet, then agitated with a grooming brush or an automatic scrubbing machine and left a short time to dwell, breaking down the soil. Next, a multi-purpose cleaning tool - known as a wand - passes over the surface. This tool forces a rinsing solution through jets at high-pressure, helping to dislodge and further agitate the soil deep within the carpet, but also to rinse - leaving the carpet free from cleaning agents that left unrinsed, could lead to rapid re-soiling or worse still - permenant damage.
Simultaneously, the wand extracts the soil, cleaning agents and much of the moisture from the carpet using powerful vacuums, leaving your carpet clean, neutralised and with a large percentage of the moisture removed. If an alkaline cleaning agent is used to pre-spray a carpet, a mild acidic solution will be used as a rinsing agent to restore neutral fibre pH, and visa versa.
The Hot Water Extraction method is applied in most domestic settings where a deep clean is required.

Encapsulation/Bonnet Method
The process of Encapsulation/Bonnet Cleaning begins with applying a special cleaning agent on to the carpet. A rotary buffer machine then works in the mixture. This industrial machine resembles a floor buffer, with an absorbent spin or oscillating pad that attracts soil and is rinsed or replaced repeatedly.
To reduce pile distortion, the absorbent bonnet is kept well-lubricated with cleaning solution. The bonnet pads are turned/rinsed/changed repeatedly as they collect the soil.
When there is a large amount of soiling in the carpet, extraction with a wet process may be required additionally. Only a small amount of water is required with Encapsulation/Bonnet cleaning and is therefore referred to as a LM (low-moisture) clean.
This method is most effective on very-low profile carpets and/or carpet tiles and so is most often applied in a commercial environment. Using this cleaning method, the operator is able to clean large areas of carpet at a much faster rate than that of Hot Water Extraction and due to its low-moisture application, drying times are also much faster – ideal for offices, communal corridors, reception areas etc. The cleaning agents adopted during this process are 'self-neutralising', thus removing the need for rinsing.
Though the most common commercial cleaning method, Encapsulation/Bonnet Cleaning can also be applied in a domestic setting where a light 'maintenance' clean is sufficient in acheiving satisfactory results.
